Designed and refurbished to the highest standards, the 100,000 sq ft factory is the most modern aluminium facility in the UK
We’ve invested £9 million in the best facilities, machinery, and software, including the installation of a 170-tonne aluminium press (the same weight as a fully-grown blue whale). The SMS HYBREX delivers 35 MN force to produce up to 4 tonnes of extruded profile an hour. To maximise efficient production, we’re also employing high speed die changes. Best practice lean manufacturing calls for Single Minute Exchange of Dies, but our tool changes are six times faster.
An integrated approach to manufacturing
While most aluminium systems companies buy in their aluminium extrusions, plastic extrusions, gaskets and mouldings, our factory is designed to supply a full end-to-end service. This gives us 100% control over the quality of the product, and a joined-up, software-linked approach to service. Garnalex have developed GarnerSys – an entirely bespoke management and tracking system developed in-house; to provide seamless integration between all elements of the extrusion and manufacturing process, and our back-end ERP system (SAP). GarnerSys will link ordering, production, tracking and speedy delivery super-efficiently; so fabricators and installers get the reliability that’s been lacking in the aluminium sector.
Built on solid foundations
Garner Holdings, the sister company of Garnalex (which makes Sheerline), also now owns plastics extruder LB Plastics, formed in 1957. Back in 1971, LB Plastics originally registered the Sheerline brand name. It’s a great name, and the shared site and heritage of these companies is a solid foundation for our journey into aluminium. The Firs Works site is 450,000 sq ft and housed within a 24 acre freehold site.
